The driveline is made up of all the gears, axles and components that are required to smoothly thrust your truck in both drive and reverse. In other words, the driveline controls and moderates the power from the engine and transmission to your wheels. While you may not know about your driveline, it is very important to your vehicle.

You can find your driveline system under the hood of the truck. It is composed of many parts, including:

  • Transfer Case
  • Axles
  • Driveshaft
  • U-Joints/CV Joints
  • Differential gears

Differential gears are devices for transmitting rotary motion smoothly. They are utilized to move wheels at an even speed when the vehicle turns corners, changes gears or goes on two wheels while driving over a bumpy surface.

What is a driveshaft?

A driveshaft is a rotating shaft that uses universal joints to transmit torque from one location to another. They are used in conjunction with doublings and U-joints to transmit the torque from the engine to the rear axle. The failure of any of these components will require urgent help. At MCL Mobile Fleet Services, we are more than able to help you with any of your driveline concerns.

Driveline issues in a diesel engine can transpire in a variety of ways. Some of these include:

  • Faulty axles and universal joints
  • Icing on the oil pan gasket or ring
  • Pinion gear failure issues

Common solutions and services for driveline problems

Take care of your differential fluid. People think to change their oil, but they are not always aware of the importance of changing your differentials. Flush out your front and rear differential fluid.

You can locate your differentials at the end of your vehicle’s power train. Differentials take power from the transmission and divide this power between each tire on the front or back axle. Locations of differentials may vary depending on the setup of the vehicle.

The differential is constantly at work which leads to the breaking down of gear oil, making it harder for it to transfer power. When this happens, water collects in the interior and creates rust. Damage can occur to the gears.

Our trained technicians will drain the fluid and replace it with fresh fluid that has a universal viscosity.  Differential inspections are very  useful because they reveal if there are other problems with your vehicle.
